The university was founded in 1884 and has received excellent awards for teaching and research. Our qualifications are therefore recognised world-wide so International students have chosen to study at Bangor for many decades, and make up 10% of the student population.

Most schools have achieved the top rating of ‘excellent’ for teaching quality and are also rated grade 4 and 5 - the highest grades for research. Indeed 2 of the schools are rated the highest possible grade of 5*.  Bangor is one of the best centres for the study of Banking & Finance in the UK. Other specialisms include Environmental & Natural Sciences, Computer Science & Visualisation, Law and Psychology.

Teaching is centred around the tutorial system so students enjoy direct contact with professors on a regular basis and schools offer impressive learning resources such as the ocean-going research ship and nanotechnology laboratories.

Bangor is situated in a beautiful area yet it is close to Manchester and its international airport. It is a safe city and crime-rates are the lowest in the UK. As it’s a compact city – university buildings, accommodation and the city centre are all within safe walking distance.

Buckingham has a unique atmosphere unlike that of any other higher education institution today. It is small and friendly- a place where lecturers and non-academic staff alike will get to know you as an individual. Our freedom from external interference enables us to concentrate on the business of delivering high quality education. One of the strengths is the two-year degree. It is the first university to introduce honours degree programmes which run over a two-year period with four terms per year. This highly successful and popular format enables our students to complete their degree a year earlier than those attending state universities. Not only can you start earning a year earlier but you could complete a Masters degree with a further year's study - thereby gaining both undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications in the same length of time it would take students at other universities to complete just a first degree.
