Curtin is one of the institutions involved in the project to create the world's largest telescope, the Square Kilometre Array.

In 2009 Curtin opened the Resources and Chemistry Precinct. The precinct represents a $116 million investment primarily funded by Curtin, with contributions from BHP Billiton and the Australian Federal Government.
